This one-of-a-kind DURGA wearable art coat began its life as a pre-loved wool coat sourced from a local vintage shop in Amsterdam.
Over several weeks, it was carefully transformed by hand into a sculptural textile artwork, built through hand-knitted 3D botanical sculptures and finished with a light purple faux-fur lotus on the back.
Designed as clothing that lives beyond trends, this piece sits between fashion, textile art and personal expression. It is not seasonal, not mass-produced, and not intended to be replaced. Each sculptural element is positioned by hand, making the coat impossible to reproduce.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is wearable art clothing?Wearable art clothing is created as an art object first and fashion second. This coat is a one-of-a-kind wearable artwork built through hand-knitted three-dimensional sculptural elements on a wool base. It is designed to be worn, but it is not trend-driven or seasonal fashion.
What does true upcycled fashion mean?
True upcycled fashion transforms an existing garment without breaking fibres down or using chemical recycling processes. This coat was created from a pre-loved wool coat and rebuilt by hand using vintage wool and leftover materials, resulting in zero new textile production.
What’s the difference between upcycled and recycled clothing?Recycled clothing requires fabrics to be broken down and reprocessed, often using chemicals, water and energy. Upcycled clothing keeps the original garment intact and enhances it through craftsmanship. This coat preserves the original wool structure and adds sculptural textile elements by hand.
Where can I buy wearable art clothing in Amsterdam?
This wearable art coat is available to view and try on at Kokopelli Art Gallery, Warmoesstraat, Amsterdam, and is available for worldwide purchase online through here.
What inspired making the DURGA wearable art coat?
Before creating this coat, I was living alone in pristine nature, surrounded by foxes, flowers, and untouched landscapes. The orange color was inspired by the fox, while the flowers and snakes came from observing the richness and liveliness of nature around me.
How did the making process begin?
Once I received the base coat, I began attracting and searching for materials that naturally complemented the orange tone. I found leftover wool in local vintage shops and started knitting the flowers based on the vision that had formed.
How was the upcycled DURGA coat made?
Each petal was knitted individually and then shaped and positioned on a mannequin. The elements were slowly assembled and sewn by hand, guided by what felt right during the process.
What does the lotus on the back of the coat represent?
The lotus was created from leftover faux fur and symbolizes renewal and purity — the idea of something beautiful emerging from nature in its most natural and unforced form.
Who is the upcycled one off DURGA coat meant for?
This coat is for someone who feels a personal connection to nature and is drawn to pieces that reflect their inner world. It is not a seasonal item but something uniquely suited to the individual who wears it.
Why is DURGA coat sustainable?
Because it is deeply personal and not trend-driven, it is meant to be kept and worn over many years rather than discarded. Its value lies in its uniqueness and connection to the person who chooses it.
